GAME DAY ATTIRE PART 2

Good Monday morning! I'm still on a high that the Arizona Cardinals are now 3-0! Well, since we are on the subject of football, here is my Game Day Attire Part 2. This blog post was recently featured on my friends blog, The Story of My Life. Annie is a sorority sister of mine and her blog is one you don't want to miss. She shares life experiences that most of us are too embarrassed to talk about and doesn't apologize for it. 

Remember when Kristin Cavallari debuted a women’s NFL clothing line? For once we were given the opportunity to not look totally tacky while cheering for our favorite football team. However, the excitement ended quickly as the clothing was never actually available for sale. Hmm... rude Kristin, you're still hot though and we forgive you. So we were left at square one to rummage through local sport stores to find that perfect game time attire. However, I have a few tricks up my sleeve to avoid looking like a total bag, because trust me, we've all seen it happen. Most of the time while I'm cheering (more like boozing) on my favorite team I'm headed to the local bars. 

Therefore, today I've put together a couple of looks that are casual but you can play around with them. The best part of rooting on a team is that you get to play with their team colors. For example, these orange Steve Madden sneakers are shoes I wouldn't normally wear but these are perfect for a Denver Bronco fan. If you cheer for a team with red in their colors, slap on a red lip.  Also, you can fit your team colors within your accessories such as a purse or a chunky necklace. I tend to stray away from team shops or sports stores, and I find my favorite sporting shirts at Junk Food, Old Navy, Target, Victoria Secret, and Chicka-D. 

A few of my fashion don'ts while chugging down vodka waters at the bar while "cheering" on your favorite team are: 

-       Cutting shirts // I'm not against cutting an old shirt (as you can see in Thursdays post) but just be careful because you're not on frat row anymore. Sometimes when you cut the shirt too much you just look juvenile.

-       Team Colors vs. Skin Color // Just because your team is Gold and Maroon doesn't mean you need to wear Gold, because well...it doesn't look great on everyone. 

-       No Jewels on the Shirt // Get you bedazzle on with accessories like a chunky necklace, an arm party or sunglasses.

Watching a game at a bar or at a friends house can be tricky but don’t be afraid to play around with your look. Also, the chances of you having dirty hair from your Friday or Saturday night are high, so make use of it. This is the perfect time to play around with that hairstyle you found on Pinterest months ago.

Thoughts on heels? I’m all for a chunky wedge or ankle bootie, but keep the stilettos for the club. Remember, whatever you wear you want to make sure you can still hang with the boys.

If you follow me on Twitter you know I have been on a serious Game of Thrones binge lately. We started the series just a couple of weeks ago and are already finished with season 4. Once you binge watch a show like this it starts trickling into your real life. Brandon and I are often found calling each other your grace, my lady, or my lord. So if you are stopping by any time soon to our humble abode make sure you call us by the correct names. 

All joking aside, it rained in Arizona on Monday, like real hard. We woke up at 2:45 a.m. on Monday to howling winds and pouring down rain. At 2:50 a.m. we realized, OH CRAP! We left our DIY project on the porch in the backyard. Luckily, we saved our project and it ended up perfect. I will post photos once I'm done styling and it looks Pinterest worthy.  We took Monday off from work due to weather, which gave me the opportunity to rock my Hunter rain boots. I don't get to bust these babies out that often so I take every opportunity I get.

CONSTRUCTION CHIC

Construction Chic? Never thought you would hear that did ya?! Welp, for those who don't know, I work at my dad's construction company therefore I have a little bit of experience on what you need to wear while using a hammer. Key word: A little bit. I've never actually worked out in the field with our employees because I'm far too whimpy and I know I couldn't handle it. I give our employees a lot of props for handling the heat, the hours, and providing all the heavy lifting while producing the work. Construction has a big place in my heart because most of my family works in the industry. 

So while I've never actually swung a hammer, poured concrete, or built anything I at least know how to look the part. When I saw these Caterpillar boots I about fell off my chair! Neon pink and orange on a rugged boot, ahhh yes please.  I love when clothing adds different texture or color to an unexpected item, like the contrast between the bright girly colors with a rugged manly boot. Jeffrey Campbell, known for their very understated shoes, has hopped on this construction trend. Slap on these booties, a pair of cut off shorts, a graphic tee, add a flannel around your waist and call it a day. 

So I've heard (because I've never done it...) if you're working outside, especially in the Arizona heat, you should wear long sleeves. Long sleeves keep you cool while you sweat versus wearing that cute little tank top of yours. & I don't want to state the obvious but remember to keep hydrated! 

Your daily style shouldn't stress you out but you can't be afraid to take a few risks!

FRESH LOVE

I recently purchased this tee from H&M but I can't seem to find it online. I love basic graphic tees because they are simple. Throw them on with a pair of shorts, jeans, or even a midi skirt. Graphic tees are also necessary for brunch/breakfast mornings. When I wake up on a Saturday or Sunday the last thing I want to do is really 'think' about what I'm going to wear. When I was in college, my sorority tee's were my GO TO when I wasn't feeling inspired. Since I'm "grown up" I have transitioned into graphic tees. Some of the best places to purchase graphic tees are, Forever21, Nasty Gal, and Etsy.

These photos were taken over the weekend in Tucson where we spent time with Brandon's family. Downtwon Tucson has come a long way since the last time I've been there. We ate dinner at the Hub Downtown and it was delicious. On a Saturday night our wait was 45 minutes but we sat next door for a drink while we waited. We left the Hub stuffed with mac n' cheese and ice cream - a perfect American summer meal if you ask me!

Do you see what is going on in your office? We are no long restricted to pencil skirts or matching pant suites, we are free. Free to mix and match our blazers, free to wear flats without feeling under dressed. 

Let me tell ya a little story... Out of college I worked at an insurance company. I worked in a cube and was on the telephone all day long. The dress was business casual so I stocked up on pencil skirts, blouses, and invested in a pricey pair of black slacks. A few weeks at the new job go by and I realize that I'm way over dressed compared to my coworkers. Yet, I wasn't going to toss all my new clothes just because I didn't really "fit" in. My dad always told me to, "Dress for the job you want, not the one you have." If you want to succeed, look like it.

However, the whole experience was liberating because I was no longer constricted to the pencil skirts or black slacks. I mixed up my closet by wearing more casual items with my dressier ones but I never lost that professional look.  

It is a slippery slope, so beware if you're going down this track. I always ask myself, "If I saw a potential client or customer in this outfit, do I present myself well?" If the answer is no, change the outfit.
